The Tell-Tale Heart & The Screaming Skull – Double Bill (11th – 23rd December)

Blue Orange Arts presents –

Ghost Stories for Christmas

A double bill of plays

The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe

A lone narrator draws us into the shadowed recesses of an obsessive mind, in this new working of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale of tension and paranoia.

Drawing on other works by this celebrated writer, we are drawn into a psychological spiral  of the tortured imagination.

Obsessed with the old man’s “vulture eye,” we are drawn into the meticulous planning of a murder, where the greatest enemy is the mind itself.

As tension mounts, reality and delusion blur, pulling the audience into a visceral stage experience of guilt, paranoia, and the fragile boundary between sanity and madness.

This new adaptation, specially written for Blue Orange Arts, transforms a classic tale into an intimate exploration of the darkest corners of human consciousness.

The Screaming Skull by F. Marion Crawford

Set within the walls of a brooding seaside house, where memory and superstition intertwine, F. Marion Crawford’s seldom-staged masterpiece unfolds as a chamber-piece of psychological unease.

A skull seems to be screaming from beyond the grave. A warning of what is to come…or a banshee of retribution for half-acknowledged crimes? An old sea captain leads us along a precipitous path of guilt and hidden passions. As the evening draws on, rational explanations begin to fray, and the grim history of the house begins to take an ever more strangling grip upon reality.

The past reaches into the present, and the future becomes ever more sinister, in Roman de Fruscan’s  chilling adaptation of this classic tale of gothic suspense. Not so much a ghost story, as a meditation of unwanted thoughts. A psychological journey which will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Both plays have been adapted for the stage by Roman de Fruscan
